Happy Friday!

Dear friends,
A Bates friend sent me the link to another family battling the Big C. They are Colby grads with a beautiful newborn - please visit their website and keep them in your hearts and prayers.
Dear friends,
Tonight marks our arrival at the $6000 mark…in under a month since launching this site. That is RIDICULOUS! And AWESOME! Speaking of awesome, I ran the longest ever in my life this past Saturday - 5 whole big-girl miles. HOLLER!
Seriously, running 5 miles (for me) is no joke. I have never run this far before, and it was a weird mix of total confidence and knee-throbbing despair. The saddest/weirdest part is the 2.5 mile marker where I turn around and head back is…the World Trade Center. Which is not only depressing…but a BIG HOLE. Literally. For those of you who don’t live in NYC or follow our stupid city politics, it is 5 years since 9-11 and there’s still no memorial because of a big fight about it amongst a bunch of asshole politicians. So instead of running by some peaceful, pretty place, I ran by a big construction site that gives way to a gaping hole in the sky. It’s utterly depressing and I think insulting to those who died there. But I guess I should rant about that on 9-11forever.com, and not on this here blog. Sorry.
So yeah - 5 miles! I have muscles I haven’t ever had before, and can eat ice cream without feeling bad about it. All in the name of fighting cancer! Tomorrow is my day off from training, and I am getting a facial and massage courtesy of some very nice friends. With all my new aches and pains, it will be that much sweeter.
Happy Tuesday to all and many thanks for all your emails, kind thoughts, funny conversations - and most importantly - GOSSIP!
- Kate
Peopleare now coming to Running For My Mom via searches performed on sites like Google and Yahoo. Here are some of the most recent terms they’ve searched for that have lead them here:
I’m sure they were all looking for my site.
Hello friends! Today marked the passing into the $5000 territory! I’m more than half way there to $10,000 - dare I dream that big!?
Again, my most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has visited, donated, linked, and bought me a beer.
I am hoping to re-vamp this site to make it prettier and more user friendly with some new fun features, so be on the look out for that and feel free to email me and bust my ass (or chops) if it is not happening fast enough.
In case you missed it, my Training Log is linked on the right side bar under “Pages”.
When someone in your life has cancer, it’s pretty easy to get majorly depressed. Add in all the craziness in the Middle East, Britney Spears posing naked in Vanity Fair, and the Red Sox losing to the A’s 15-3, and I end up really on edge! So I like finding things that cheer me up (besides white wine).
My friend Shannon has a dog named Satch, whom she blogs about often. I could look at pictures of Satch all day long, they make me so happy. Particularly this one, where she humiliates him by making him pose with some hair she brushed off of him:

Ahhhh. I feel so much better.
Shannon, along with my friends Glennis and Jen, are running the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco in October for Team In Training. When they first signed up I pondered doing it and decided “Eh, I don’t have enough time. That seems like a lot of work and a lot of money to raise. I’m lazy”. But these ladies have all done it and done it with Awesome-Power! They’re butt-busting efforts fire me up every day to go out and hit the pavement.
My 13 year old cousin has created an organization called “Me.You.And Purple” to raise $1000.00 for Pancreatic Cancer. When I was 13 I was most interested in how I was going to make Edward Furlong move to Boston and fall in love with me. I am blown away by her motivation and efforts.
Wow I am in a good mood now! Time to go run four miles.
Hello New Goal of $5000!
I can not say it enough - thank you for your continued support and donations. Thank you for your kind emails. Thank you for being a friend. You get the point! You are awesome. I am a slow runner. EVERYBODY WINS!
Heading off to bed tonight with over $4200.00 raised in the fight against Pancreatic Cancer. I will drink to that!
My 4 mile endurance run is tomorrow and I plan on hitting it up in the 90 degree death-weather we’re having here in NYC. I will send good running energy out to everyone who has visited this site!
HAPPY RUNNING!

Only $130 away from hitting the $4000.00 mark!
The Red Sox are duking it out with the A’s in extra innings!
Unrelated, but both are exciting.
My aunt sent me a link to The Prouty, a bike race started 25 years ago by four nurses at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth in honor of one of their patients. Their goal their first year was to raise $2000. They raised $4000.
This year they made it all they way to $1.2 million.
Ten years ago my grandfather was treated at that cancer center (he’s heading toward 90 years any day now). It’s truly amazing the spirit of regular people to do extraordinary things. Hurray for inspirational Oprah-esque stories!
