Starting The Week Off On The Right Foot

August 14, 2006

I finally beat off the Sinus Infection with some antibiotics…and a 7 mile run on Saturday.

Holy balls!  I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be -  I seemed to hit at wall at about 1 hour/5 miles. I think I need to be hydrating/feeding myself better, so I am going to go become one of those runners I hate and look into those butt bag things that hold tiny water bottles and gels.  That is this week’s mission.  That and a heart rate monitor.  And maybe a cute new running top.  Also I want some new yoga pants, but that is entirely off-topic.

Anthony and I were in Boston this week and when not hanging with the fam (Andrew’s ladyfriend Liz was in town for work too - so it was a fun full house) we trekked up to Salem to hunt witches at cheesey overpriced tourist traps.

My mom is doing really well - in great spirits and looking really hot - she had fancy Puma shoes on Thursday night that I want.  Yes, despite facing the evil that is cancer, my mom has STYLE!   She and I are hopefully going to check out the Painting Summer in New England exhibit this week when I head back to Boston.

I guess I have no real news to report, which is a good thing!  Sox are only one game behind the Yankees,  my knees aren’t too sore, and my mom is feeling pretty good.  I guess that means all is right in my world, and for that, I am extremely grateful.

PS…$7000 is slowly fading into the distance. I am pretty sure we’re past $8000 - I’ll try to report an actual number in the next couple of days. WHEE!

Ugh. How Do You Train When You Are Sick?

Does anyone know the answer to this baffling question?  My head has been besieged with a Sinus Infection from hell.  I ran on Saturday when I was sniffley, now I am a mess and can’t get off the couch.

In Vermont, You Do What You Want

August 7, 2006

I just got back from hanging out with two of my “besties” (that is horrible girl slang for best friends) in Vermont. Liese, Megan and I hung out at Liese’s family camp on Lake Dunmore for a few days, where we mostly did this:

We did go for an awesome hike, which made me look extra ugs as I was sweaty and spent most of the time trying to kill deer flies:

Vermont is one of my favorite places on the planet. I love the trees, the mountains, the smelly hippies, the beer, the cheese, the cow shit…it’s seriously the best.

The three of us ran 6.4 miles on Saturday - my endurance run for the week. We did it all in 72 minutes, and if my calculations are correct, this means I ran an 11.25 minute mile. For me, this is amazing! I could be doing my math wrong, but let’s pretend I am not so I can feel excited and proud! Regardless, it was a really fun run - I love getting to spend time with my friends and it was an amazing change of scenery from my usual run in NYC. There were lots of cows, hills and green, whereas in NYC, there’s usually a sprinkling of drag queens, concrete, and the smell of dead fish. Not that the former is better than the latter - just different.

Also, Liese and Megan are both running the Half-Marathon with me in October - so get used to to their names and faces around here! They’re hot - see:
